日本佛像圖說 Nihon Butsuzo Zusetsu (Illustrated Study of Buddhist Images in Japan)

(4) 12pp. [192 plates]. 50pp. Dark blue buckram boards with blind-stamped ruling on the front cover, and blind-stamped publisher's device on the back cover. Spine with gilt lettering and a red label. The book which was produced after the Butsuzo Kenkyukai (Buddhist Images Research Association), is a photographic study and survey of 121 Buddhist sculptures from the Heian and Kamkura periods, through a total of 192 plates of b/w photographic reproductions. Among the types of statues are Nyorai (如来), Bosatsu (菩薩), Myoo (明王), Tenbu (天部). Many of the statues have multiple photos, revealing the work from multiple angles and views. Many of the statues are quite famous and are kept in prominent temples and museums in Japan. Text in Japanese.
