Paris: Ch. Schmid, ND (ca 1897-1898). First edition. Hardcover. Folio (18 1/4 x 13"). leaf (Title), loose leaves, as issued. Later half olive cloth over decorative paper covered portfolio. String ties.
Late 19th-century pictorial survey of British furniture design containing no less than 234 various pieces of furniture (bedding, chairs, tables, side tables, sofas, armoires, desks, cabinets, etc..), ornaments (rugs, mirrors, pool table, etc..), as well as tapestries in 48 illustrated variously colored mono-cromatic plates. Each of these are viewed in tableau - within room settings, including all aspects of the room from the stained glass windows and drapes to the rugs on the floor.
The models have been collected and drawn by a certain Edw. Bt. Each plate is signed in the plate by the artist's monogram. The plate featuring the designs numbered 168 to 176 is dated "97".
Although the work is credited to Schmid (Paris) it is printed by lemercier- Paris.
This work appears to be extremely rare as OCLC indicates that only one library worlwide owns an incomplete copy (Universidad de Navarra, in Spain).
The title leaf and the collection of 48 illustrated plates are housed in a wrong and later portfolio titled "Le Style Moderne Dans la Décoration Intérieure," by Henri Clouzot.
Portfolio partly frayed, with foxing to covers. Lower margin of title leaf partly creased, with small closed tears (not affecting lettering). Minor offsetting and foxing along paper margin (not affecting plates). Portfolio in overall good-, interior in good to very good condition. g- to vg. Item #43374
