The work is a two-part English translation of the third volume of Georges Perrot and Charles Chipiez's "Histoire de l'Art dans l'Antiquité" (History of Art in Antiquity) series. The work analyses the spectrum of artistic and architectural work of the accent cultures of Sardinia, Judea, Syria and Asia Minor. The volumes are illustrated with "four hundred and six engravings" which include detailed figures, architectural layouts, and maps throughout the text, as well as "eight steel and coloured plates". Notable among the plates are three fold-outs, two of the ancient Temple in Jerusalem (measuring approx. 16.5x19.5" each) and one of wall carvings at Pterium in Cappadocia (measuring approx.10x15"). The books include detailed indexes of illustrations at the front.

Bindings with light rubbing and bumping to corners and along edges. Head and tails of spines with some bumping and light closed tears. Covers with some light scratches, smudges and/or stains. Spines sunned. Vol.1 with light rippling at the bottom of the front cover. Interiors with light rippling to front endpapers. Starting at a few pages throughout. Vol.1 with a small closed tear to the top left corner of the front free endpaper. Large fold-out plates with small closed tears to the left corners, from use. Images unaffected. Bindings tight overall. Bindings in good+, interiors in very good- condition overall. g+ to vg-. Item #43128
