Spine with gilt-stamped motifs and gilt lettering over a black label. Marbled endpapers and edges of the book block. This is a later printing of the book which is considered the most popular and influential work on the history on the conquest of Mexico. Originally the title was spelled "Mexico". The work went through numerous editions and translations over the years since its initial publication in 1684. The content covers the period from the appointment of Hernán Cortes to command the expedition in 1518, through the fall of Tenochtitlan, the Aztec capital, in 1521. Binding with front cover loosening at the front hinge and some additional cracking Scratches and smudges to the front and back covers. Rubbing to corners and along edges. Starting at the interior rear cover. Light smudges and foxing to the margins of some pages. Text mostly unaffected. Book block tight overall.
