Loggan. Decorative headpieces. A collection of twelve sermons preached upon several occasions by the celebrated English Christian theologian and mathematician Isaac Barrow (1630-1677). In his sermons, considered by many as masterpieces of argumentative eloquence, Barrow avoids controversy and preaches morals. However, he was also a controversial writer of great weight, and that chiefly against the papacy, whose followers, according to his biographer, Abraham Hill, he had seen England militant, Italy triumphant, France diguised. Binding darkened and heavily rubbed along upper margin, with some abrasion to leather. Head and tail of spine chipped. Previous owner's name dated Nov. 26, 1809 on front free endpaper.
