Den Haag: Reichskommissar, 1941. Loose leaf. Group of Documents pertaining to the antiquarian bookseller N.V.J. Emmering, housed in plain blue portfolio folder.

1. Typed order on Reichskommissar letterhead with German Eagle and Swastika to liquidate the business of the Jewish University Bookseller and Antiquarian J. Emmering, Amsterdam, dated in handwriting December 8, 1941, and signed by Dr. Protzmann. The reference number for this order is Az.: Li.Nr. 2168/HE 1002/41 Dr.P/Tu, to be used in case of further inquiries. Protected by modern mylar.

The order was based on article 12 of the ordinance 48/1941 of the Reichskommissar for the occupied territories in the Netherlands for the treatment of businesses obliged to register (Verordnung des Reichskommissars für die besetzten niederländischen Gebiete über die Behandlung anmeldepflichtiger Unternehmen) and directs the bookseller to liquidate his business immediately.

The Wording of article 12 of the ordinance: "The Reichs Commissioner for the occupied territories of the Netherlands (General Commissioner of Finance and Economy) may bar businesses obligated to register from continuing the business operation. He can mandate that such businesses are to be phased out or shut down by a date of his choosing (Verordnungsblatt 1941, 48, page 168)."

Furthermore the original document goes on to state that Dr. Protzmann has instructed the "Omnia" Treuhandgesellschaft m.b.H. to supervise the liquidation under his overall supervision. Text in German. Page folded three times with small tears and chips at folds. In good condition.

2. Two differently printed receipts of the bookseller N.V.J. Emmering with address an bank accounts. One of them filled out in handwriting with name of client, amount, and dated July 11, 1941. The other without any handwriting. Protected by modern mylar.

3. Color reproduction (8 1/3 x 6 1/4") of photograph featuring N.V.J. Emmering and his wife after W.W.II in an art gallery.

4. Three small self-adhesive white bookseller stickers with black framing on original roll fragment reading S. Emmering B.V., Antiquarian Bookseller and Print Dealer, Amsterdam, N.Z. Voorburgwal, 304. Protected by modern mylar. Receipts, photograph and bookseller stickers in very good condition. g to vg. Item #42071
