First edition of Walter Scott's "The Lord of the Isles," a rhymed, romantic, narrative-poem in six cantos (parts), which tells the story of Robert Bruce, Earl of Carrick who had been hunted out of Scotland into exile by the English and their allies. Bruce returns over sea from the Island of Rachrin, but is forced to land close to hostile forces at Artonish Castle on the seacoast of Argylshire. Seeking refuge from tempestuous seas, Bruce begs shelter from Ronald, Lord of the Isles: inadvertently on the day of his marriage feast to the beautiful Edith of Lorn.

Binding rubbed along edges. Front board detached but present. Upper margin of title page neatly cut (not affecting lettering). Some foxing and minor smudges to very first and very last leaves. Minor and sporadic foxing throughout. Binding in overall poor, interior in good to very good condition. poor to vg. Item #41484
