Light brown library tape over tan printed wrappers, with black lettering on the front cover. The publication documents the Chinese "Bird and Flower Paintings" exhibited at Kyoto National Museum, and includes 75 b/w plates of b/w reproductions in photogravure. The privately owned artwork was lent to the museum for the purpose of this exhibition. The table of contents at the front contains titles of the works, artist's names and the provenance of each works Japanese owner. This work depicts a wide variety of natural settings and/or animals, with an emphasis on birds. Each plate is protected by a tissue guard baring the printed name of the work in black text. There multipage index of plates at the front. Text in Japanese.
Front cover with light rubbing, chipping and creasing to corners and along edges. A 2" tear along the top edge, and splitting along the spine. Back cover detached but present. Loosening of the tape along the top of the spine. Some rippling and damp staining along the top left corner of some of the initial pages. Some light sporadic foxing to the edges of a few plates and to some tissue guards throughout. Images unaffected. Library bookplate at the interior back back.
