Divided into 6 parts, this work written by Japanese landscape architect Hyoichi Shiihara is a striking photo-illustrated survey of garden landscaping in Japan and abroad. The work which is profusely illustrated throughout with 169 photographures as well as architecture designs and topgraphical maps, depicts the following locations:

1) The Imperial Palace Gardens (The Katsura Detached Palace, Kyoto; the Kyoto Imperial Palace; the Imperial Shinjuku Garden, Tokyo; the Shiba Detached Palace, Tokyo)
2) Famous Parks and Gardens in Japan (Korakuen Park, Okayama; Kenrokuen Park, Kanazawa; Tokiwa Park, Mito; Ritsurin Park, Takamatsu; Suizenji Garden, Kumamoto; etc..)
3) Designs of Gardens for Residences and Villas (Private and landscape gardens, gardens on a slope and with a pond, gardens on a triangled area, etc..)
4) Parks (Yokohama Park; Kume Park at Numata-machi; Garden of the Palace of Peace, The Hague, etc..)
5) Foreign Parks and Gardens (Versaille, France; Humpton-Court, London, Great Britain; Sanssouci, Potsdam, Germany; the Granja Palace Garden, Spain, etc..)
6) Elements of Japanese Gardens (Stone lanterns and basins, gates, etc..)

A statment by Count Sutemi Chinda, then the Lord Steward to Prince (later Emperor) Hirohito, reads: "A copy of the book was presented to Prince Hirohito and his wife. Keep up the good work". Dated, May 5th 1924, this statement was likely added to the book for this second printing.
