This a facsimile of an original Ph.D. dissertation given to the Graduate Committee and the Department of English at Princeton University, in 1956. The work discusses the famed Middle-English poem, "Pearl", with a focus on the language of the symbolic imagery in original text. The work is examined from a spiritual Christian perspective. As the author states at the outset, "The imagery of 'Pearl' is a symbolic imagery which is borrowed almost exclusively from Sacred Scripture and may be understood according to the poetics of Hugh of St. Victor, Dante, Petrarch, and Boccacio." Annotations in pen, from the original dissertation, have been copied onto the facsimile. Wrappers with light scratches and creasing to the front and back covers.
