The book contains 48 gorgeous heliogravure plates featuring stunning views of famous historic and contemporary sites from across Egypt. Structured as a virtual trip down the Nile, the book starts at Cairo in the north and ends at Abu Simbel in the south, near the Sudanese border. Sites featured include, The Giza complex, including views of the Sphinx and the Pyramids, views of then contemporary Cairo including Mosques, the Bazaar and the Citadel, the Statue of Ramses at Saqqara, the Stepped Pyramid of Djoser, sailboats on the Nile, the temple complex at Luxor, Karnak, Thebes, The Valley of the Kings, the temple at Dendera, Abydos, Edfu and the Aswan Dam. Additionally the photos offer rare views of the original sites of the Philae temple complex, and the temples of Abu Simbel before each had to be relocated due to the construction of the Aswan dam and the flooding to create Lake Nasser.
