Original gray cloth with black reproduction of Erich Heckel's title page on cover and black lettering on spine, housed in a plain cardboard slipcase. Second title page woodcut by Erich Heckel with German text. Wilde wrote this ballad in Berneval-le-Grand, France, where he spent time with Robert Ross. The poem narrates the execution of Charles Thomas Wooldridge who had been a trooper of the Royal Horse Guards and was convicted of murdering his wife. Illustrated with 12 impressive etchings, including title page, after woodcuts by Erich Heckel from 1907. Printed in Walbaum Antiqua on Hahnemühlen handmade paper at the letterpress of the Brothers Hartmann, Berlin. Text in English. Light sunning of slipcase and spine.
