Johann Christoph Friedrich von Schiller (1759–1805) was on of the great German poets and playwrights of all time. Also known as a philosopher, physician, scientist and historian Schiller struck up a productive though complicated friendship with the influential and famous Johann Wolfgang von Goethe. Their intense relationship and exchange discussing issues concerning aesthetics led to a period that now often is referred to as Weimar Classicism.
