The Liberal Jewish Synagogue was founded in 1911 and is the oldest and largest congregation belonging to Liberal Judaism. It has a tradition of leadership of the Liberal movement and has been involved in writing the liturgy and excellent musical accompaniments for the services. Its a constituent member of Liberal Judaism which was founded in 1902 as the Jewish Religious Union. The 14 newsletters at hand start with no.14 from December, 1941 (the outbreak of the war in the Pacific)- and run through until the end of the war (No.34,June 1945). The newsletter was issue irregularly and had at least 34 issues. The newsletter regularly informs on national events and concerns, prints opinions on the respective subjects, contributions to foreign developments, informs on matters of the Synagogue and the community, and presents suggested readings from the Bible. The collection includes issues from December, 1941, February, March, May, Nov.-Dec. 1942, Jan.-Feb., March-April, July, September, 1943, December 1944, March and June 1945. All issues are subtitled "to Members in the Forces" and contain sections with contributions entitled "News from Members of the Forces" as well as opinions of civilians. Scarce, no OCLC records for WWII- era issues. Some rust around stapes and sporadic light to moderate foxing. Horizontal folding creases at middle. Occasionally detached last pages. Newsletters in overall good condition. Quite scarce. g. Item #39722
