This photo-book is composed of 18 tissue-guarded duo-tone photogravures depicting views of Chamonix-Mont-Blanc, more commonly known simply as Chamonix. Situated near the massive peaks of the Aiguilles Rouges and most notably the Aiguille du Midi, Chamonix is one of the oldest ski resorts in France, and was the site of the first Winter Olympics in 1924*. This book was likely sold as a souvenir during or shortly after the 1924 Olympic Games. Indeed, several of the venues used during the games are shown, and an Olympic flag appears in some images. In addition to general views of the area, there are images of ski jumping, figure skating, ice hockey, bob sledding, etc.. Each photogravure is captioned in French. Some clear water-staining along edges of front cover, and fore-edge of fly leaf. Captions in French. Wrappers in overall good-, interior in very good condition. g to vg. Item #39241
* The 1924 Winter Olympics, officially known as the Ist Olympic Winter Games were a winter multi-sport event which was held in 1924 in Chamonix, France. Originally called Semaine Internationale des Sports d'Hiver ("International Winter Sports Week") and held in association with the 1924 Summer Olympics, the sports competitions were held at the foot of Mont Blanc in Chamonix, and Haute-Savoie, France between January 25 and February 5, 1924. The Games were organized by the French Olympic Committee, and were in retrospect designated by the International Olympic Committee (IOC) as the Ist Olympic Winter Games (from Wikipedia).
