Das Watt

Hamburg: Heinrich Ellermann, 1937. First edition. Hardcover. Large Quarto. 96pp. Original beige cloth with maroon lettering on cover and spine. In contrast to the atmospheric pictures of many other depictions of the tidal flats Alfred Ehrhardt presents fascinating b/w photographs focusing on forms created in concurrence of wind, water and land, the intricate, repetitive details created by these forces of nature. The photographs are all taken with a Zeiss-Ikon camera equipped with a Zeiss Tessar 1:4,5 lens. The introduction is written by Dr. Kurt Dingelstedt with a commentary on his photographs by Alfred Ehrhardt. Text in German. Binding with light foxing along edges and spine. Endpapers with moderate foxing. Minor foxing on half-title and last photograph in margins and foredge. Moderate foxing in margins of first photographic plate.
