Handbook of Philosophical Logic: Volume 4

Dordrecht; Boston; London: Kluwer Academic Publishers, 2002. Second edition. Hardcover. Quarto. XIII, [1], 431, [1]pp. Original olive cloth, with gold lettering on spine and front cover. Fourth volume of a remarkable series which provides a mostly clear description of the method and facts in predicate calculus, from the zeroith-order to the higher-order. It also provides a great starting point to study other formal logics presented in further volumes. The four volume "Handbook of Philosophical Logic," originally published between 1983 and 1989 came at a fortunate temporal junction at the evolution of logic. This was the time when logic was gaining ground in computer science and artificial intelligence circles. These areas were under increasing commercial pressure to provide devices which help and/or replace the human in his daily activity. This pressure required the use of logic in the modelling of human activity and organization on the one hand and to provide the theoretical basis for the computer program constructs on the other. Gold lettering partly and slightly faded on front cover. Binding in overall good+, interior in very good condition. g+ to vg. Item #38673
