Three full page frontispiece engravings on heavy paper stock. Three volume set of the history of Greek life and customs profusely illustrated with more than 1,650 sepia-toned and b/w reproductions of photographs of erotic artwork throughout. Originally conceived in 2 volumes for the public and a supplemental volume for libraries, scientist and professionals who would ensure it to be used for scientific purposes only, a precaution taken by the publisher due to the prevalent public opinion of the time which would have perceived the content as offensive. Text in German. Bindings with light wear along edges, small bumps, small tear at upper spine of volume 3, rubbing and minor staining, volume two with moderate water stain. Some light foxing of endpapers of volume one and sporadic in margins of reproductions on heavy paper stock not affecting images. Some yellowing in margins. Volume one starting at page 11, full page image and pages 15/16 loose. Pages 251-258 of register at rear of volume two with water exposure in lower right corner crudly opened, not affecting text.
