Vorgärten: So oder so?
Halle: Ewald Ebelt, 1939. Fourth edition. Softcover. Oblong Sextodecimo. 32pp. Original stapled color illustrated wrappers with red and black lettering on cover. Pamphlet issued by the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Gartenkunst e. V. (German Society for Garden-Art, nonprofit) to enhance communal living. An appeal to home owners by the German Arbeitsfront to pay attention to the design of front yards. Illustrated with 18 skillful b/w drawings showing nine pairs of architectural perspectives, with and without fences. In each case the buildings are shown with their front yards fenced and open, emphasize on an urban garden city atmosphere. The seven page text disputes the view of the human being as a product of his environment and promotes a pro-active, creative attitude towards shaping his/her environment with an emphasis on open space environments. The final drawing, called Big City Satire, features a winding banister separating a walkway from a lawn in a well-to-do urban business district with a brief text suggesting the winding banister design represents the actions and thinking of "old-school" politicians as opposed to the desirable "straight" new way of handling matters in the Third Reich. The pamphlet contains a list of recommended shrubs to be planted at rear. Wrappers with minor soiling and rubbed, light wear along edges and spine. Light vertical folding crease in middle of publication. Wrappers in overall good, interior in very good condition. g+. Item #37178
