Antonio's View of the 1979 Coty American Fashion Critics Award Winners and Nominees

NP: Coty, 1979. Limited Edition. Hardcover. 408/500. Elephant Portfolio, 15 1/2 x 11 1/2" - (2) 14pp., 14 plates. Original light brown portfolio with gilt lettering on cover with lithographs laid in. Extraordinary portfolio of one of the fashion industry's leading illustrators of the 1960s. Working for Harper's Bazaar, British Vogue, and Elle Antonio introduced ethnic models to the haute couture and became known for his irreverent pop art illustrations destroying the notion that fashion art had to be serious and rose to become an acknowledged harbinger of new trends. The 14 plates of lithographs included here, accompanied by 14 brief bios of fashion designers printed on mottled ochre vellum paper, are described by Antonio as follows: "In each of these plates I tried to reflect the mood and spirit of both the designer and the clothes, relating each drawing to its own historical art period." Among the fashion designers addressed here Perry Ellis, Ralph Lauren, Alexander Julian, Jhane Barnes, and others. Portfolio lightly rubbed and scuffed with small stain on cover. One of the bio pages is missing and Mary McFadden's bio in duplicate. Portfolio in overall good, interior in very good condition. vg. Item #36258
