Title page featuring St. Ignatius Loyola receiving the Holy Spirit and angels as his light pushes away the dark fiery breath of Satan. Head and tail pieces as well as decorated initials. Jesuit theological tract based on Loyola's "Spiritual Exercises." There is a heavy emphasis in this book on methods of actively contemplating on God and the Trinity. Includes an approbation from Joannes Saxis. The author was the rector of the theological college at Charles-Ferdinand University and a member of the Jesuit order. He wrote a number of Jesuit tracts such as "Fructus belli contra Deum suspecti" and "Adhortationes ad amorem et imitationem crucifixi." This book should be seen as a product of the early modern Catholic Counter-Reformation, printed in the major battleground region of Bohemia. Text in Latin. Significant wear to cover.
