Elementary Treatise on Physical Astronomy by renowned Jean-Baptiste Biot (1774-1862), a physicist and mathematician who made advances in geometry, astronomy, elasticity, magnetism, heat and optics. For his work on the polarization of light passing through chemical solutions, Biot received the Rumford Medal from the Royal Society in 1840. In addition to his scientific pursuits, Biot was a prolific writer. By the time he passed away in Paris on February 3, 1862, he had completed over 250 works of various types, the most renowned of which is this "Traité Élémentaire d'Astronomie Physique" (1805). This work is complete with its 16 folding plates. Some rubbing on spines and along edges of covers. Moderate and sporadic foxing and sunning throughout. Text in French.
