Contemporary blind-stamped spotted calf neatly rebacked, with gold lettering on spine. Raised bands. Monumental history of Portugal written by renown Portuguese historian and poet, Emanuel de Faria y Sousa (1590-1649) and continued by John Stevens (1662-1726), English captain, Hispanist and translator, better known for his translation of Don Quixote in 1700. This work is complete despite the jump in pagination between page 200 and page 209. Some rubbing along edges of covers. Minor and sporadic offsetting and foxing throughout.
