Luxurious publication celebrating the 700 year anniversary of the city of Bern; with contributions by six authors and a city map and overlay of the III. & IV. fortification bound in one. The first book describes the history of the city from its founding to statehood including nine colored maps, the second its population and societies including 4 colophons, the third the chronicles and historians, the fourth its constitution with two colophons depicting the seals of the city, the fifth the document granting the rights (die Handfeste) and a colophon of the original document, the sixth a critical inquiry of this document, and finally a city map with an overlay, a plan of the fortifications of the city. Text in German. Binding rubbed with light smudging and wear along edges. Minor sporadic foxing and light age-toning. Binding in overall good+, interior in very good condition. Item #35281
