In the late 19th century Theodor Fischer planned public housing projects in Munich. In 1909 he accepted a position as professor for architecture at the Technische Universität München. Originally an imitator of historical styles, he changed direction, seeking a style which was closer to German tradition. Famous pupils of Fischer include Paul Bonatz, Erich Mendelsohn, Bruno Taut, and JJP Oud.
