Judae Harizii Macamae Pauli de Lagarde studio et sumptibus editae
Gottingae (Gottingen): Prostant in Aedibus Dieterichianis Arnoldi Hoyer, 1883. First edition. Hardcover. Quarto. IV, 204pp. Green cloth with gold lettering on spine. Fascinating work being Alharizi's "Tahkemoni", composed between 1218 and 1220, in the Arabic form known as maqama (Macamae.) This is written in Hebrew in unmetrical rhymes, in what is commonly termed rhymed prose. It is a series of humorous episodes, witty verses, and quaint applications of Scriptural texts. The episodes are bound together by the presence of the hero and of the narrator, who is also the author.. Some age-wear on binding with corners bumped (not affecting pages), and head and tail of spine partly chipped. Sticker with Hebrew lettering at head of spine. Pages slightly age-toned throughout. Introduction in Latin, text in Hebrew. Binding in overall good-, interior in good to good+ condition. g. Item #28015
