[16], 231, [1], 283pp. Original 3/4 calf over marbled paper covered boards with gold lettering on spines. Walter Reisch's ex-libris on free front endpaper of each volume. Walter Reisch (1903-1983) was an Austrian-born film director and screenwriter. After fleeing from the Nazi's, Reisch emigrated to the United States where he collaborated with Billy Wilder, Charles Brackett, Richard Breen, and others. Reisch won an Oscar for 1953's screenplay of Titanic. Engraved frontispiece in first volume. Partly first edition (1st volume) of Nicolai's most famous romance published in 1773. This work is complete with its 4 engraved plates (including frontispiece). Some age-wear on binding with rubbing and slight abrasion along edges. Tape remnants on endpapers. Previous owner's stamp at bottom of each title-page. Sporadic and insignificant foxing throughout. Text in German, Gothic script. Bindings in overall good-, interior in good+ to very good condition. g. Item #27947
