Exposition Coloniale Internationale de Paris 1931. Territoires Africains Sous Mandat de la France: Cameroun et Togo

Paris: NP, 1931. First edition. Hardcover. Oblong 16mo. Unpaginated. Decorative marbled paper covered boards with gold lettering and decoration on front cover. Book housed in publisher's slipcase, with gold lettering on front cover and spine. For the Exposition Coloniale Internationale de Paris held in 1931, the organizers published a series of volumes on French colonial administration for the public. Besides one volume for AEF and another for AOF, the series included a separate volume entitled Territoires Africains Sous Mandat de la France: Cameroun et Togo. This volume carefully explains that international law required France to administer the two territories according to specific conditions under international supervision. While this "distinguishes a territory under mandate from a colony of a traditional type", the text quickly went on to provide a lenghty, self-congratulatory appraisal of France's mandatory rule since the end of the First World War. This work is profusely illustrated with numerous photogravures of portraits and views. Some age-wear on slipcase with closed tears along upper spine, and slight rubbing along edges. Previous owner's blind-stamp on free front endpaper. Slight foxing on endpapers. Minor and sporadic foxing throughout. Text in French. Slipcase in overall good, Binding and interior in very good condition. vg. Item #27588
