In 1910 after the South Coast Land Company built the hotel, Del Mar instantly became a favorite spot for many Hollywood stars. "Nature has been peculiarly beneficent to this portion of San Diego County. At no other point on the entire coast line between Los Angeles and San Diego is to be found so picturesque or so magnificent a hillside sloping toward the sea and broken only by gentle vales or occasional deep erosions which run down to the face of a cliff less than one hundred feet above sea level, at the base of which is one of the most magnificent beaches of the entire Pacific Coast..."
