Scarce graphic monograph documenting the urban planning and modern development of the German city, Selb. The city is located in the Fichtelgebirge, bordering the Czech Republic. Selb is also known as the "Porzellanstadt", famous for the manufacturing of fine porcelain. The project was headed by Professor Dr. Walter Gropius and the Architects Collaborative Inc., whose members were Alex Cvijanovic, Dr. Hans Buchwald, Robert Yelton, Prof. Edward Hörmann and Matthew Dillingham. Transport and industrial design was in the hands of Prof. Dr. Kurt Leibbrand und Verkehrs- und Industrieplanung GMBH. Profusely illustrated with color and b/w maps, plans, few drawings, as well as b/w reproductions of photographs. The constructions was divided into four major Baustufen (building phases), using the heart of the city as a starting point. Includes a color table with an overview of the Baustufen. Walter Gropius was the founder of the famous Bauhaus. Along with Ludwig Mies van der Rohe and Le Corbusier he is widely regarded as one of the pioneering masters of modern architecture. A year after the publication of this work Walter Gropius passed away at the age of 86. Minor staining and scuffing on boards. Head of spine slightly bumped. Text in German.
