Manuel Gamio (1863-1960) was a Mexican anthropologist, archaeologist, sociologist, as well as a leader of the "Indigenismo" movement. He was the first scientific investigator to explore Teotihuacan. The result of these investigations is "La Poblacion del Valle de Teotihuacan" (The Population of the Valley of Teotihuacan). A revision of his Columbia thesis, this work is still an important source for ethnographic information on the northern zone of Mexico. All 3 volumes with color frontispiece, illustrated title-pages, as well as many b/w reproductions of photographs, diagrams, fold-out plates (some lithographic) of charts, drawings, maps, art work, documents, etc. Some of the plates are in color. Vol I., volumes primero: La población prehispánica. cii,362,xvipp. Vol. I., volumes segundo: La población colonial. 368-778,xiipp. Vol. II: La población contemporánea. 670,xxxpp. Vol. I, volumes secundo without binding but complete. Heavy age wear, scuffing and staining on bindings. Paper split along gutter at front- and rear endpapers in volumes with binding. Heavy waterstaining to first eight unnumbered pages, some interior leaves, and to page 777 through rear endpaper in part 2 of Vol. I. Tissue guard on frontispiece-, half-title and frontispiece pages on same volume stuck together due to water exposure, half-title page loose but present. Closed tears to few plates. Part two of Vol. I in poor, binding on other volumes in fair, interior in overall very good condition. Important extensive work by Gamio, who was one of the leading and most important archaeologists of Mexico. Scarce as a complete set. fair. Item #23304
