First inaugural issue of the "journal dedicated to the questions of Jewish upbringing and education." Contains a preface "from the press," presumably written by Einger, describing the inception of the journal, and its purpose. "The necessity of a periodical dedicated entirely to Jewish education barely requires any justification... The challenges of Jewish schools continue multiplying, since Jewish schools not only must provide for their students a general elementary education, but must also teach Jewish knowledge, and inculcate a special attachment to the spiritual worth of our people... With the goal of encouraging a wide discussion on many multifaceted and complicated questions of Jewish education, our Journal, as a publication of the Society for the Enlightenment of Jews, will assist in uniting the actions of the Society and its regional chapters, creating between them a vibrant exchange of information..." Contains a number of essays, the majority of them in Russian. At the end of publication are three appendixes, the first two in Hebrew. The last appendix is a classified listing of education-related equipment and publications. Original front wrapper taped along spine edge. Interior pages yellowed, some chipping along bottom of outer edge. Rebound boards scuffed and rubbed.
