A wonderful philosophical work on the theme of the futility and vanity of this world, and the inestimably greater benefits of intellectual and religious pursuits. This work includes a German translation by Samson Hamburger, Chaim Hirsh. Schwabacher, and the world famous philosopher Moses Mendelssohn and commentary by David Ottensoser. The German translation is in Hebrew characters as was the custom of the time. Also included is Bi'ur Ha-Milot by Moses ben Menahem Mendel Kunits, which is a great reference tool citing the sources and gives an explanation of the words of Behinat Olam. Inscription in Hebrew by previous owner, on verso of front endpaper. Signature of previous owner, Hananiah David Cohen, in blue ink on top of title page. Some pencil notes on margin of several pages, not affecting text. Text in Hebrew and German in Hebrew characters. Binding in fair, interior in overall good condition. g. Item #22575
