In original orange dust wrapper, top edge gilt, pages untrimmed as issued. Title vignette and in text reproductions of b/w illustrations by Alba B. Butler, Jr. The colophon reads "Set in sixteen point Village No. 2 and printed by George W. Van Vachten, Jr., on Halle mould made paper, a few copies of this book have been privately issued for our friends at Christmas, 1936." A laid-in card reads The author, Mary Heaton Vorse was a liberal-radical in the same group that included Dodge Luhan and John Reed. The Taos New Mexico art colony was started in the late 1890s; a fresh influx of painters & writers came when the heiress Mabel Dodge Luhan discovered the place and arranged for D. H. Lawrence to move there and made Taos the "in" place for the Roaring 20s version of the Jet Set." Overall very good condition. vg. Item #22523
