Bookplate of Baroness Rothschild, whose birthname was Veronika Henckel von Donnersmarck (* see below), on inside of front board. Bookplate is a white and red embossed cartouche with the Rothschild family crest. Lithographed title-page with lettering in gold, red and black. Many pages disbound, all present. Illustrated with 90 full-page chromolithographs in vibrant colors of traditional costumes of various German regions & their cities such as Baden, Bayern, Hannover, Hessen, Schlesien, Sachsen, Württemberg plus many others. Includes some Austrian regions as well. After original drawings from 1864-1870 by Albert Kretschmer (1825-1891). At the time of publication Kretschmer was a painter and professor at the Königliche Hoftheater zu Berlin. Each plate with descriptive text, protected by a tissue guard ( tissue missing on one plate). Slight abrasions on plate 1 & 65. Minor offsetting from a few plates. Text in German, Gothic script. Binding in good-, plates in very good condition. * Veronika Henckel von Donnersmarck was the wife of Erich von Goldschmidt Rothschild. Erich was the son of Max von Goldschmidt whose marriage to Minna von Rothschild led to the combining and creation of the double name Goldschmidt-Rothschild.
