The author, is a well established author and scholar on Karaite Judaism. Karaism, is a Jewish movement characterized by the sole reliance on the Hebrew Bible as authoritative religious scripture and rejection of Pharisaic and Rabbinic Judaism, regarding the Talmud and all subsequent sacred literature as heretical. The term “Karaim” (which in Hebrew means “readers of scripture) name was chosen by the adherents of Karaite Judaism to distinguish themselves from mainstream Rabbinic Judaism. At one time Karaites were a significant portion of the Jewish population and there was a great rivalry between Karaites and the rest of the Jewish population. However, today, there are an estimated 15,000 Karaites worldwide. In modern times Karaite Judaism has formed its own independent Jewish organization, and is not a member of any Rabbinic organization.
