Grundlegung der Ethik

Vienna: Wilhelm Braumüller, 1881. Hardcover. 8vo. v. 457pp. 3/4 brown leather over marbled boards. Marbled page edges. Marbled endpapers, with ex-libris plate to inside of front board: Hermann Bessemer. Work on ethics, written by renowned Austrian thinker, Bartholomaeus Carneri (1871 – 1909). Carneri attempted to open wide perspectives of world conception and ethics on the ground of Darwinism. Eleven years after the appearance of Darwin's Origin of Species, he published his work, Morality and Darwinism (1871), in which he used the new world of ideas as the basis of an ethical world conception in a comprehensive way, an idea he continued to develop in Grundlegung der Ethik ("Foundation of Ethics"), this work. Carneri tries to find in the picture of nature the elements through which self-conscious ego is conceivable within this picture. Minor age wear to binding, especially at edges. Minor browning throughout. In German, in Gothic script. Very good condition. vg. Item #19703
