Glasgow: William Mackenzie, nd (ca. 1845). Later edition. Hardcover. Large quarto. XXII, 708, 694, IV, 685, [2]pp. 3/4 leather over buckram, with gold lettering and decoration on spine, and gold-stamped borders on covers. Raised bands. All edges gilt. Engraved frontispiece portrait of Reverend Thomas Scott on first volume. All three title-pages are steel-engraved. This fascinating Bible with commentary edited by Rev. Thomas Scott had the largest circulation and sustained it through many years. As a commentary Dr. Scott's work was superior to any that had appeared before its time. Horne, usually a discriminating judge, speaks of it in high praise (cf. his Manual of Biblical Bibliography, London, 1839, p. 259). This work is profusely illustrated with numerous full-page steel-engravings, each one with its caption. Some edge wear on bindings with rubbing along joints, corners and head and tail of spines. Sporadic foxing/browning throughout. Bindings and interior in overall good+ to very good condition. g. Item #18842
