Gilt borders on each board with large central gold ornament representing the Arc of Convenant. Raised bands. Engraved frontispiece in each volume. Large engraved allegorical vignette on each title-page. Engraved initials and headpieces. Stunning first edition of this beautiful "large Bible of Mortier", profusely illustrated with numerous full-page copperplate engravings and large engraved vignettes (2 per page, captioned in Dutch and French), as well as 5 double-page engraved maps. Some edge wear on bindings with joints of first volume cracked but boards still holding. Joints of second volume partly cracked. Corners bumped and rubbed. Some staining (dark spots) and rubbing on boards and spines. Bookplate of previous owner (Francis Beresford Wright), on back of each front board. Text in Dutch and French.
