A marvelous set of volumes providing a rich overview of Poland's history of art and architecture through the ages. Edited by Adam Bochnak (1899-1974), a well known Polish art historian. Each volumes is richly illustrated with mostly b/w photographic reproductions of sculptures, objects d'art, textiles, paintings, frescos, illuminated manuscripts, churches, monasteries and civic buildings representing the religious and secular life in Poland. Frequently an object under discussion is supplemented with drawings and detailed views. Volumes include a biographical sketch of one or more Polish artist and several scholarly essays treating the influence of the Greeks and Romans and of artists such as Duerer and Rembrandt on Polish art.
