Frontispiece in both volumes are hand-colored lithographs. A one-half by two-and a half inch piece of frontispiece page in vol.II. missing, not affecting image. George Thomas Keppel (1799-1891) was a Lieutenant in the British Army. In the early 1820's he was transferred to India and remained there until 1823. These two volumes are an account of his return to England via Bussorah, Baghdad, the ruins of Babylon, Curdistan, the Court of Persia, the Western shore of the Caspian Sea, Astrakhan, Nishney, Novogorod, Moscow and St. Petersburg. Wonderfully illustrated with 3 hand-colored lithographs including frontispieces, in-text wood engravings, one full page color plate as well as on large fold-out map.
