Употреьляють-Ли Евреи Христіанскую Кровь? Upotrebliaiut-li Evreĭ Khristianskuiu Krov? (Do Jews Use Christian Blood?)
Санкт-Петербург (St. Petersburg): Цедербаума и Гольденблюма (Zederbaum and Goldenblum), 1879. Second edition. Hardcover. Octavo. 69pp. Rebound in period half blue cloth over decorative paper boards. The second, revised, corrected and expanded edition of Daniel Chwolson's defense of Jews against the blood libel. Chwolson (1819-1911) was a Russian-Jewish scholar of orientalism, who was one of the foremost Jewish academics of the period to write Jewish defenses against anti-Semitic charges. In the case of this work, Chwolson, who was noted for his scholarly investigations of the blood libel, was prompted to write a new polemic in response to the 1879 case of 4 Jewish men accused of murdering a Christian girl in Kutaisi, Georgia. The four men were ultimately aquited, and the case was widely covered and discussed in newspapers throughout the Russian empire at the time. This edition, issued the same year as the first edition*, is corrected, revised and expanded to almost twice the page count, with the addition of three appendices at the rear.
