Recased original dark brown Morocco with blind-stamped ruling and thirteen elevated, elaborately decorated squares (4), rectangles (8) and one lettered diamond on cover, gilt lettering, tooling and ruling on spine. Back cover as front without lettering. Gilt dentelles and gauffered edges. White silk ribbon marker. Frontispiece engraving and engraved half-title. Second title page for the New Testament. New endpapers and cream, textured original vellum endpapers.

A remarkable Victorian Family Bible magnificently illustrated with 35 stunning engraved plates, incl. frontispiece and half-title. The tissue-guarded engravings depict dramatic biblical scenes. Two magazine clipping by L. Leishman pasted to front endpaper. Very light wear along edges of covers. Some foxing of pages, more exposed at front and end of volume, majority of plates with foxing on versos and in margins, some of the images also foxed. Good- to very good condition. Item #50991
