But it would, I think, be well to describe generally the present condition of these five papyri, since an account of the difficulties which they have presented may serve both to excuse some of the shortcomings of this work and to suggest ways of overcoming such difficulties when they are met with in other fragmentary papyri, Greek as well as Egyptian."
