This work started out initially as Heschel's Ph.D. thesis in German, and was eventually published as his famous examination of the Hebrew prophets of the old testament, their historical context, their work and their psychological and emotional states. Heschel argues that rather than speaking for God, the prophets act and speak as manifestations of God's will towards the people. Dust jacket with some minor chipping on extremities of front corners, and a 1/4" chip at head of spine. There is a light but noticeable stain on rear panel of d.j. Binding is sound. Lined out name of previous owner on front free endpaper. Overall condition is very good. Very good to very good+. Item #50687
