German Ring Designs
NP: NP, No date. Original artwork. Hardcover. Folio. 100 plates. Light gray cloth with hand-numbered printed label on cover, handwritten numerals on spine.
Collection of three thousand meticulous pen and ink drawings of rings, earrings, brooches, lapel pins, cuff links, bracelets, clasps, barrettes, numbered 24916 to 27915. All images are cutouts from larger tan paper pages and pasted into printed and numbered red squares (2 x 2/18"), each with corresponding, handwritten numbers and descriptors for most of the images.
Most of the motifs are of classical nature, circa 1900-1914. Numbers 25059 and 25060 are lapel pins with Indian Swastikas incorporated into the design. Some of the ring designs show variant views, the top as well as the side view and others show variant perspectives of the jewelry, including the backings of pins and brooches. All of the drawings are original pen and ink drawings, including some with color. A few frames are without images and numerous of the drawings show variant views of the objects in one frame.
Some of the cutouts are very small (e.g. 3/4 x 1 1/8") while others cover the whole red printed square and bordering frame showing variants of the same object, or pairs of earrings for example. Text in German. Binding with light wear and light staining along edges, interior in very good condition. Good to very good condition. Item #50537
