Roller's brand of Realism challenges the conventions of contemporary American painting. He is obsessed with expressing the grand spiritual concerns of life, aims art-historically associated with the Abstract Expressionists who isolated and used as their means and subject matter only the most formal and abstract elements of painting–color, light, space, and the physicality of paint itself–to elicit the unknown and perhaps unknowable. Wilson, though, jolts the viewer with his juxtapositions of identifiable objects and fantastic characters in familiar settings. But he's not like most other Realists either. His world is not comprised of the stark, photographic vistas of the Photo Realists; nor is it an idealized Romantic vision; nor is it exclusively a figurative presentation of allegories as in Narrative or History painting. Wilson shares something with all of them..." (Coe).

Illustrated with fifty-three color reproductions of Wilson's paintings with data on title, medium, size, signature and collections the works are held in.
