Olive cloth over illustrated paper boards with black lettering on the front cover. A very nice copy of the first edition of this seminal and important work of children's literature. The first edition points are here including the library of congress catalog number 63-21253 and the 1963 date printed on the title page. Jacket is clipped at the bottom of the interior front flap, with a price of $3.95 listed at the top, a two-paragraph blurb and the numbers 40-80, and 1163 printed at the bottom. The back flap of the jacket contains text about the Caldecott Award. A first edition, early printing, with a second state jacket.
Jacket sunned, with minor rubbing and some closed tears to extremities, as well as some light stains and smudges. Binding fairly tight, with some minor stains and smudges to the covers and spine. Interior with a small staple puncturing the front endpaper, and a few sporadic instances of small stains or smudges to pages, mostly in the margins.
