Title page and first 10 leaves of Volume I with old water or mold spotting (readability not affected). Volume II with minor dampstain rippling and 2 gatherings (p. 177-208) are loose. The scarce first edition. James Wilson (1742-1798) was an American statesman and legal scholar. He was the first law professor at the College of Philadelphia and these volumes contain his lectures for the first and second course. He was twice elected to the Continental Congress and was a signer of the Declaration of Independence. In 1789 he became one of the first Associate Justices of the Supreme Court (and was the first U.
