Original custom designed wooden box with aluminum sliding case with stamped black lettering, housing thirty-eight white cardboard plates (4 3/4" squares) featuring thirty-one photographs, including five in color, five with text, including title plate and colophon, and two white plates, these with text on verso: "Time is at all times the Master of Ideas" and "My last mistake was unclear." The three text pages relate to Sommer's travels to Pompeii, Brasil and Hoboken, to knowledge, poetry and philosophy, and "Art provides style for manners What good is someone who returns only at breeding time." Sommer, considered a master photography, is known for his explorations of the artistic possibilities of photography. This production is a true artist book. Aluminum case with minor blemish.
